The Ford Motorcraft type 4G Series alternator can be easily identified by it's rear black cover. It is the only generation of the Ford Motorcraft type to feature this type of rectifier cover. The 1G series has only a rear case, without a rear cover. The 2G series is externally regulated and can be identified by the lack of an internal voltage regulator. 3G series alternators have an exposed voltage regulator / brush holder combination. Finally, the 6G series alternator can be identified by it's particular cover-like rear housing and large bridge rectifier.
Note: The Heavy Duty versions below have a better Voltage Regulator and a much more durable Heavy Duty Rectifier over the standard duty version.
